Modi joins the world in congratulating Argentina for winning FIFA World Cup

India Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the world in celebrating Argentina’s victory in the FIFA World Cup 2022 final. Argentina defeated France 4-2 in the penalties after the match could not be decided in extra time.

A Kylian Mbappe masterclass stopped Lionel Messi’s brilliance in the 120 minutes of the game, but Emi Martinez proved to be the point of difference between the two sides in the shootout.

All Argentina players converted their shots, but France’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Kingsley Coman failed to convert their chances.

PM Modi took to Twitter to express his joy and wrote that this was one of the most entertaining football games to watch.

“This will be remembered as one of the most thrilling Football matches! Congrats to Argentina on becoming #FIFAWorldCup Champions! They’ve played brilliantly through the tournament. Millions of Indian fans of Argentina and Messi rejoice in the magnificent victory,” Modi wrote on Twitter.

He consoled the France side after congratulating their rivals and said that they had put in a spirited performance.

“Congratulations to France for a spirited performance at the #FIFAWorldCup! They also delighted Football fans with their skill and sportsmanship on the way to the finals,” Modi wrote.

Argentina had a spirited run in the tournament after losing their first match against Saudi Arabia in the group stages. Lionel Messi was awarded his second Golden Ball award after he scored 7 goals in the tournament, his personal best.

Messi has already stated that he will not return for the FIFA World Cup 2026. With the win, Messi completes his illustrious trophy cabinet and marks the end of the GOAT debate between him and Cristiano Ronaldo.
