Modi calls for ceasefire and diplomacy in Russia-Ukraine

Addressing the G20 Summit in Bali Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a ceasefire and diplomacy in the Russia-Ukraine war.

He also spoke of the challenges presented by climate change, the Covid pandemic, and the importance of India being energy secure.

“India’s energy security is important for global growth, as it is the world’s fastest-growing economy,” said PM Modi.

“We must not promote any restrictions on the supply of energy and stability in the energy market should be ensured.” After the meeting in Indonesia, India will take over the Group of 20 presidency for one year.

Earlier on Monday, US President Joe Biden objected directly to China’s “coercive and increasingly aggressive actions” toward Taiwan during the first in-person meeting of his presidency with Xi Jinping, as the two superpower leaders aimed to “manage” their differences in the competition for global influence.
