Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to give special address at the valedictory function organised as part of AIADMK founder late M G Ramachandran’s birth centenary celebrations in Chennai in January next year.
This has been revealed by state information minister Kadambur Raju on Thursday.
It may be recalled that last month, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami thanked Modi for the Centre’s decision to release coins in Rs 100 and Rs five denominations in memory of AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran.
“I express my whole hearted gratitude on behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu and on my personal behalf, for having issued orders to release commemorative coins in the memory of our great leader Puratchi Thalaivar (revolutionary leader) Dr M G Ramachandran,” Palaniswami said in a letter to Modi.
And, during his visit to Sri Lanka recently, Modi hailed the contributions of Tamil people in Sri Lanka and India, saying the community “gifted” the world ace cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan and national icon ‘Puratchi Thalaivar’ MGR.
During his address to the Indian-origin Tamil community in Sri Lanka, Modi praised them saying they speak one of the oldest-surviving languages in the world and it was a matter of pride that “many of you also speak Sinhala.”
