Migrant worker awarded triple death sentence in Pudukottai

A 34-year-old man has been awarded triple death sentence by the Pudukottai district mahila court for sexually assaulting and murdering a mentally-ill boy, aged 17 years, in 2019.
The convict, identified as Danish Patel, belongs to Gujarat. He used to work as a daily wage labourer at a stone crusher unit in the district. Police said Patel took the now-deceased teenager, who lived near his house in a village near the stone crusher unit, to a secluded spot on his motorcycle.

He then sodomised the minor and also penetrated plant twigs in his private parts, leading to serious internal injuries. After the incident, Patel was arrested while the teenager was taken to a government hospital for medical care.
Despite best efforts to save him, his condition deteriorated, and he died due to multiple organ failure 18 days later, according to reports. Subsequently, the Keeranur All Women Police registered a case against Danish Patel under various IPC sections and Pocso Act and was arrested.
Later, he was detained under Goondas Act and the case was on progress at Pudukkottai Mahila Court.

Judge R Sathya, after hearing the arguments, on Thursday found Danish Patel guilty of rape and murder and awarded triple death sentence, besides slapping a fine of Rs 20,000 on him. Apart from the compensation of Rs 6 lakh already given by the government, the court also ordered and additional Rs 3 lakh as relief to the kin of the deceased.
