MGR remembered; EPS, OPS pay tributes

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran was remembered by party leaders, cadres and supporters across Tamil Nadu on his 103rd birth anniversary today.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Panneerselvam, who are the coordinators of the AIADMK, paid tributes to the late Chief Minister.

Last month, floral tributes were paid to MGR, on the occasion of his 32nd death anniversary. Chief Minister and AIADMK joint coordinator Edappadi Palaniswami, coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Ministers, MLAs and scores of party cadres paid floral tributes at the memorial of MGR on the Marina beach front.

The party also resolved to work on the lines of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa to secure a grand victory in the upcoming civic polls.
Led by top leaders O Panneerselvam and K Palaniswami, senior AIADMK functionaries paid floral tributes at the MGR Memorial at Marina in Chennai.

A charismatic actor-turned-politician, Ramachandran is fondly addressed as MGR by his supporters and followers. The AIADMK leaders took a pledge to strive hard to win the ensuing local body elections on the path shown by MGR and late leader J Jayalalithaa. Administering the pledge, Panneerselvam said a movement should have good cadres and the cadres should have good leadership.

Last year, the CM unveiled the MGR Centenary Arch on Kamaraj Salai, a month after the Madras High Court allowed its unveiling sans any ceremony. Palaniswami unveiled the structure, built an an estimated cost of Rs 2.52 crore, from the state Secretariat, in the company of his deputy O Panneerselvam and senior cabinet ministers.
