MG Motor India honoured with National Energy Conservation Award 2023
Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu bestows recognition to MG’s plant in Halol, utilises 50% of Gujrat Company energy for its manufacturing operations from renewable resources
(Morris Garages), a British automobile brand with a 100-year-old legacy, announced that its Halol plant in Gujarat was honoured with the second prize for the NECA (National Energy Conservation Award) 2023 for ‘excellence in the field of energy efficiency’ in the Automobile sector by government of India. The award was presented by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu and Shri R.K. Singh, Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on December 14, 2023. From MG Motor India, Mr Rajeev Chaba, CEO-Emeritus and Mr Biju Balendran, Deputy Managing Director, received the award on behalf of the company.
The most prestigious award in the field of energy conservation, which is driven by the Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) comes on the back of a rigorous evaluation process. Through both off-site and on-site assessment by the Bureau’s technical team to understand the energy conservation measures implemented by MG Motor India at its manufacturing plant and their benefits in terms of energy savings. MG Motor India is today one of the few pioneering passenger carmakers to embrace green manufacturing practices at its manufacturing plant with 50% of the energy required for manufacturing operations is from renewable resources. MG Motor India’s pledge to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 2 lakh MT over the course of 15 years is equivalent to the positive environmental impact of planting over 13 lakh trees.
The brand has already witnessed a remarkable 36% decrease in CO2 emissions, with levels dropping from 0.59 MT in 2022 to 0.34 MT till Nov 2023. Projections indicate that this downward trend will continue, with an estimated carbon footprint reduction of 11889 MT by the end of this year.
