The Chennai City Police launched a storming operation on Monday night and detained more than 3,000 people on various charges.
According to a statement, police personnel were split into teams and conducted storming operation last night. The police conducted searches at the public places including 740 lodges across the city.
Around 300 persons were detained under suspicions, 1125 offenders, 1325 repeated offenders, 32 accuseds with NBW.
Further, during vehicle checks, 71 men were arrested for riding without helmet, 51 for violation of traffic rules, 159 for driving under influence of liquor, and a total of 9748 vehicles including heavy vehicles were scrutinised.
Also, 69 motorcycles were seized following vehicle owners had failed to show proper documents last night.
Police sources said the operation was carried out on the directions of Chennai City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan in the wake increasing incidents of chain and mobile phone snatching incidents, police intensified patrolling across the city.
