The central crime branch (CCB) of the Chennai city police on Wednesday arrested two former assistant commissioners of police (ACPs) for cheating two people by promising MBBS seats for their children at a private medical college in Chennai.
The victim, Jayapal, had lodged a complaint about a year-and-a-half ago with the Central Crime Branch alleging that Lakshmanan, who was then Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) had received Rs 65 lakh for securing him an admission in the Government Medical College.
According to reports, similar complaint was made against Parthasarathy, who too was a retired assistant commissioner.
As there was no progress in the case, the complainant moved the Madras High Court. Recently, the Madras High Court had directed the CCB to register a case.
CCB sleuths nabbed the retired police officials from their houses in the city. During questioning, the duo confessed to have collected money from the parents, it is said.
