Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies will produce an anthology for Amazon Prime. Sources said that Navarasa is the theme of the anthology and nine different directors will helm each emotion.
It is said that Gautham Vasudev Menon, Karthick Naren, Bejoy Nambiar, Arvind Swamy, and Mani Ratnam himself will be directing the five out of nine emotions in the anthology. Ratnam in talks with a few more directors to helm the remaining portions.
Amazon Prime Video is said to be the platform that will stream this Mani Ratnam mega venture and the highlight is that the money collected through the show will go towards helping the workers from the film industry who have lost their livelihood due to the lockdown. More details and official confirmation awaited on this one.
Recently, it was reported by a section of media that ace director Mani Ratnam is all set to direct a sequel to the 1992 film Roja, which had Aravind Swami and Madhubala as the lead actors.
It was reported that Dulquer Salmaan will be seen playing the role of Aravind Swami. The report also suggested that the film will be completed before Ponniyin Selvan. However, according to The Hindu Tamil, Mani Ratnam’s team has denied the rumours and stated that the director has no such plans.
Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam’s next film Ponniyin Selvan is based on Tamil novel of the same name by Amarar Kalki. The film has an ensemble of cast list including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram among the others.
Dhana, who works as an assistant for Mani Ratnam has already made his directorial debut and directed the films Padai Veeran and Vaanam Kottatum.
Dhana has said in his recent interview that Mani Ratnam and Jeyamohan had started the works for Ponniyin Selvan in 2010, and that he joined when Mani needed an assistant who appreciated novels. Mani Ratnam and Jeyamohan used to discuss more while writing the story of the film and took suggestions from assistants.
