Man hurls petrol bomb at auditor house, escapes from police custody

A man accused of extortion and issuing death threats to an auditor’s family in the city escaped from police clutches on Saturday.

According to sources, Srinivasan, an auditor, is a resident of Annai Sathya Nagar at Ramapuram. He lives with his wife Ramya and mother Nagammal.

Srinivasan’s mother Nagammal runs a vegetable shop in KK Nagar. Govindaraj, who used to visit the shop, collected vegetables and refused to pay for years.

On August 16, one of the employees refused to give vegetables to Govindaraj. The next day he went to the shop and threatened the staff. Nagammal intervened and argued with him.

On being told by his mother about the incident, Srinivasan took on Govindaraj and filed a complaint with the KK Nagar police.

Even as an inquiry was underway, a gang of rowdies visited Srinivasan’s residence and issued death threats to his wife and two children. Later in the night, the gang once again came to the house and hurled petrol bombs, it is learnt.

He was taken to the police station and detained overnight. On Saturday morning he was not to be seen at the police station.
