Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), founded by actor-politician Kamal Haasan today held deliberations with political parties and farmers’ organisations on the Cauvery dispute while the DMK and Superstar Rajinikanth gave it a miss.
Those who took part in the meeting include PMK leaders Anbumani Ramadoss, A K Murthy, farmers association presidents Ayyakannu, Latchiya Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief T Rajhender, actor Nasser, Thanga Tamilselvan of TTV Dhinakaran faction among others.
DMK working president M K Salin had earlier said DMK and its allies, including Congress, had decided not to attend the event as there was “no need” to do so.
Earlier, yesterday, Kamal Hassan, who is organising the meeting, speaking to reporters, said, “I had called all the leaders for my meeting. My only aim to find a solution for our farmers. There is no politics behind it”.
“This is an important gathering. Based on discussions with all the farmers association it has been decided that a meeting will be conducted in Chennai. Calling it Tamil Nadu’s voice for Cauvery, we plan to discuss and demand Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of water from different dams,” Kamal had said.
Kamal also spoke to his contemporary and aspiring politician Rajinikanth over phone and invited him for the meet. He met DMK leader Stalin and invited him for the meeting on the Cauvery dispute.
