Madhan case: Cops get 7 days custody

As per a court order, arrested film producer S Madhan wastoday remanded in police custody for a week till November 29.

The Vendhar Movies proprietor, who went missing since May 28 and was arrested in Tiruppur two days back for cheating medical aspirants to the tune of Rs 84.59 crore,was produced before the Saidapet Magistate court todayby the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police.

Also, more details have emerged about Varsha, from whose house in Tirupur, Madhan was picked up on Monday. Sources said, “She was working as a fashion designer in the cinema industry a few years back. After she separated from her husband, she went on to open a boutique in Tirupur”.

The spacious house is said to have four bedrooms, in which one of these contained the ‘secret passage’, where Madhan was hiding. After the police caught him, the mother-of-two is said to have confessed that she provided him refuge only because she felt he could help her with his cinema connections, and that she had gifted him a motorbike and a luxury car.

Addressing mediapersons on Monday, Chennai Police Commissioner S. George said the police team had actually been tracking a woman suspected to be a close accomplice of Madhan.

Keeping a track of WhatsApp calls, the Tamil Nadu police made a major breakthrough on Monday, by arresting Madhan, whose mysterious disappearance for last several months landed SRM group chairman Pachamuthu behind bars.

The Chennai police nabbed Madhan from a house in Tirupur in western Tamil Nadu.

George said: “Madhan, having studied at the Marathwada Institute of Technology in Aurangabad, had good knowledge of varioius places in North India and kept changing his haunts.”
