Lung transplant to be performed on SPB?

Singer-actor SP Balasubrahmanyam is still on ventilator despite testing Covid negative recently. MGM Healthcare, where the artiste is currently admitted, on Tuesday stated that SPB still requires life support despite being stable.

There are speculations that SPB requires lung transplant and it will be performed soon. A statement from the hospital said, “Thiru SP Balasubrahmanyam, who had been admitted due to COVID-19 at MGM Healthcare, remains stable and continues to require ventilator and ECMO support.”

It added: “He remains awake, responsive and his vital parameters are satisfactory. His current clinical condition warrants an extended stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).”

Balasubrahmanyam had tested positive for coronavirus in the first week of August. He was shifted to the ICU on August 13 after his health declined even further.

SPB’s son SP Charan said, “We were expecting dad’s lungs to improve to a point when we could remove the ventilator. Unfortunately, we are still not at that point.”

He added: “But the good news is that dad is covid negative. But negative and positive doesn’t really matter, because we are expecting dad’s lungs to heal fast.”

Charan had said earlier, “We were expecting dad’s lungs to improve to a point when we could remove the ventilator. Unfortunately, we are still not at that point. But the good news is that dad is covid negative. But negative and positive doesn’t really matter, because we are expecting dad’s lungs to heal fast.”

SPB was admitted to the hospital early in August after he had tested positive for Covid-19.
