EC will intensify efforts to curb money flow in Tamil Nadu, said Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa in Chennai today.
Speaking to reporters, he said it has deployed a minimum of two Expenditure Observers per Parliamentary constituency, besides a Special Expenditure Observer, for strict vigil to prevent abuse of money power.
Stating that the officers have been asked to intensify effective and visible measures, he said the EC has directed the officers to ensure comprehensive monitoring
for GPS enabled squads, Static Surveillance teams and checking at border check-posts, besides maintaining strict vigil on liquor seizure and freebies, cash transfer movements.
He added: “Keeping in view the sensitivity on Expenditure related issues, minimum two Expenditure Observers per Parliamentary constituency have been deployed for strict vigil.”
Lavasa said several requests were made by the political parties during the meeting Wednesday. “They have asked to initiate criminal action against parties involved in cash distribution for votes.
They also sought basic amenities in poll booths and insisted that flying squad should not disturb the public in the name of checking. A few parties requested that CRPF should be deployed in sensitive booths. They have have also requested to conduct bypolls in the four vacant Assembly constituencies,” he added.
