LS polls: AIADMK, DMK, AMMK announce names of candidates

Three important parties of Tamil Nadu- the ruling AIADMK, the DMK and the AMMK- released their candidates list for the Lok Sabha elections on Sunday.

In AIADMK, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Thambidurai will seek re-election from Karur, while P Venugopal, and J Jeyavardhan, MPs from Tiruvallur (SC) and South Chennai respectively, will contest again from the same constituencies.

P Ravindranathkumar, son of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, will contest from Theni constituency.
C Mahendran, sitting MP from Pollachi, an AIADMK stronghold for the past over four decades, will fight again from the same seat.

The list of DMK’s candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, released by party president M.K. Stalin on Sunday, comprises seven veterans and 13 new faces, many of whom are sons and daughters of prominent party leaders.

Stalin Sunday said Dayanidhi Maran will contest from Central Chennai, A Raja from Nilgiris (SC) and T R Baalu from Sriperumbudur constituencies. His sister and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi will try her luck from Tuticorin constituency in southern Tamil Nadu.

The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) party led by TTV Dhinakaran also on Sunday released its first list of candidates in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The candidates names were for 23 Lok Sabha seats out of 39 in Tamil Nadu and for the lone Puducherry seat, a statement said.
