Lockdown relaxations: TN CM to hold crucial meeting today

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will hold a meeting with district collectors and health experts via video conference today, to discuss further relaxations of the ongoing lockdown in the state which will end on October 31.

Issues like awareness to prevent gathering of public in huge numbers during festive season, priority to elders and people with comorbidities for testing, fever camps, death audit, standard operating procedures for treatment, adequate infrastructure in Covid care centres and hospitals will be discussed.

Last month, while addressing a review meeting of district collectors on COVID-19 through a virtual link from the secretariat, Palaniswami flagged the need for more awareness.

District collectors should increase awareness among the people on the need to seek healthcare assistance by visiting hospitals within 24 hours of the manifestation of symptoms like fever, breathlessness, fatigue and a loss of taste, he said.

“Priority must be given to samples of senior citizens and those with co-morbidities while conducting RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests to detect COVID,” he said.

Ever since the lockdown, Palaniswami has been holding separate discussions with medical experts and district Collectors every month-end to decide whether or not lockdown should be extended beyond the end of the month.
