Lockdown extended in TN till April 30

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today announced the extension of  lockdown in the State till April 30.

In a statement, he said that the decision is taken as there are chances of the coronavirus virus spreading if the lockdown is lifted.

He said based on the suggestions given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the CMs meet through video-conferencing and based on the views of WHO and recommendations of the 19-member medical expert panel, the State Cabinet, which met on April 11, has decided to extend the prohibitory orders under Sec 144 CrPc and under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, till April 30.

The lockdown was scheduled to end on Wednesday morning at 0600 hrs and there were suggestions from various sections that it should be extended, as the number of positive cases has been increasing day by day and crossed the 1,000 mark at 1,075 so far, besides claiming 11 lives.
