Lockdown extended in Tamilnadu

Following recommendations from officials and health experts, the State government has extended the lockdown by another week, with a few relaxations.

As the complete lockdown was scheduled to end at 6 am on 7 June, Stalin held a meeting with officials yesterday, including Chief Secretary V Iraianbu, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan, officials from Revenue and Police department and health experts.

Vegetable, grocery and meat shops, which have been shut since May 24, will be allowed to function from June 7 between 6 am to 5 pm in all districts. However, 11 districts in Tamil Nadu, which continue to see high caseloads will continue to see the intensive lockdown enforced.

The 11 districts are Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai.
