More and more parties are releasing candidates list for the local body elections, scheduled to be held on October 17 and 19.
On Thursday, the ruling AIADMK, the DMK and the DMDK released fresh lists. Tamil Maanila Congress also released its first list on the same day.
The AIADMK on Thursday issued a list of 11,901 candidates who will contest for various posts in the State’s municipalities and town panchayats.
A party release said, AIADMK general secretary and CM Jayalalithaa (who is in hospital) released the list of candidates.
Even while deciding to contest in 54 wards of Salem Corporation, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has allotted five wards to Congress and a solitary ward to another ally Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
In Tiruchy, while the AIADMK that goes to the local body polls on its own fielded its candidates in all 65 wards, the DMK announced candidates for 60 wards by allotting three wards to the Congress and one each to the Indian Union Muslim League and the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi
The DMDK on Thursday announced candidates for three corporations – Chennai, Madurai and Salem.
Party president Vijayakanth appears to have given 50 per cent of the seats to women in Chennai Corporation. The list released by him showed that 108 out of the 200 candidates were women.
