Largely peaceful Phase 3 records over 64% polling in 93 constituencies
Like the first two phases, the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday, covering 93 constituencies across 11 states and Union Territories, also recorded a dip in voter turnout as compared to 2019, as per early estimates.
The voter turnout was 64.4 per cent, according to the figures available at 11.40 pm. In 2019, these constituencies had recorded a turnout of 67.33 per cent.
While the official time for voting to end was 6 pm, polling was extended in some areas to allow those who had entered the polling station by then to cast their votes. With reports still coming in, the final turnout could rise.
In the first phase, when 102 constituencies went to polls, the final turnout was 66.14 per cent, a drop of just under 4 percentage points as compared to 2019.
In the second phase, in which 88 seats voted, the final turnout was 66.71 per cent, a drop of about 3 percentage points from 2019.
