Kollywood celebrates Ilaiyaraaja’s Rajya Sabha nomination

Legendary musician Ilaiyaraaja was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The composer, who is currently in Seattle, USA, took to Twitter to thank the party for the honour and everyone who congratulated him on the nomination.

Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, Gautami, Vishal and several other celebrities from the film industry wished Ilaiyaraaja on the occasion.

Ilaiyaraaja, along with PT Usha, KV Vijayendra Prasad and Veerendra Heggade were nominated to the Rajya Sabha. This is being seen as BJP’s attempt to make a mark in South India where they still haven’t made inroads.

Ilaiyaraaja took to Twitter to thank everyone who wished him. His message in Tamil is translated as, “Many admirers who love me congratulated me on the honourable recognition bestowed upon me by the Indian government. Since it is impossible to thank you all individually, I am using this space to thank you…from Seattle, USA .”

Rajinikanth took to Twitter to wish his dear friend Ilaiyaraaja. His note read, “My heartiest congratulations to my dear friend and musician Ilaiyaraaja, who has been nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha.”

Kamal Haasan, in his tweet, called Ilaiyaraaja ‘a musician par excellence.’ He also added that he could have been given the presidency for his music and congratulated him on the nomination.
