Close on the heels of recent narco-chocolate racket and the huge seizure of ganja, the Narcotics Control Bureau has said that it has busted a ketamine smuggling gang in Chennai and seized 20 kg of the narcotic substances.
Siccandar Ali, 50, was allegedly trying to smuggle 10kg of ketamine to Bangkok via Kolkata. He was boarding a flight from Chennai when he was arrested.
Based on information given by him, NCB sleuths raided a house in Ice House near Triplicane where another 10kg of the drug and 100kg of red sanders logs were seized.
The NCB sleuths found 100 kg of red sanders in the house. The contraband was concealed behind the foam of purses and the smugglers were posing as businessmen supplying bags and purses, said an NCB officer.
One Mohammed Saddam Hussain, who was also found staying in the house and believed to be the mastermind of the drug smuggling racket, has also been arrested.
The drug is popular in party circuits in Malaysia, according to NCB officials. Each kg costs Rs 5-10 lakh. Ketamine is used as for anaesthesia and treating animals, especially horses.
