The sensational case of a Kerala teacher eloping with a class 10 student was solved after the police arrested the teacher at Choolaimedu in Chennai.
The teacher, hailing from Cherthala, and the boy were taken into custody from a lodge by a police team led by Muhamma sub-inspector Ajay Mohan.
The teacher was arrested on charges of kidnapping a minor. She was later released on bail. The boy was produced before the Child Welfare Committee.
The class 10 student went missing from his home in Cherthala on September 23. At 4.30 am this morning, the Cherthala police arrived at the Chennai Park lodge in Choolaimedu.
On enquiring at the reception, they found that the teacher and the student had been at the hotel for the last four days.
“Two complaints were filed in Alappuzha, one each at Muhamma and Cherthala police stations. At Muhamma police station, the complaint was filed by the child’s parents because he was missing. At Cherthala, the teachers’ parents filed a missing complaint,” says Cherthala SI Ajith Kumar. “In a joint investigation the police traced them to Chennai,” he added.
The teacher had gifted the boy a mobile phone and the duo used to talk for long hours. Officials said the teacher told the investigators that they decided to go to Chennai after the parents of the boy rebuked them on Sunday.
