Karur stampede: Vijay leaves for Delhi today to appear before CBI
TVK chief Vijay is scheduled to leave for New Delhi today to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for questioning in connection with the probe into the Karur stampede tragedy that occurred during a political rally last year.
The federal agency had issued a fresh summons asking Vijay to appear as part of its continuing investigation into the incident, which claimed 41 lives and left more than 60 people injured.
The deadly stampede occurred on September 27, 2025, during a massive public gathering addressed by Vijay in Karur district. Investigators have been examining several aspects related to the rally, including crowd management arrangements, event planning, Vijay’s delayed arrival and the sudden surge of people at the venue.
The investigation was later handed over to the CBI following an order by the Supreme Court of India. The probe is currently being monitored by a committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ajay Rastogi.
This will mark Vijay’s third round of questioning by the CBI after he appeared before the agency earlier in January and during another subsequent session.
