Karunanidhi hospitalised, Stalin back from London with big plans

On a day when DMK working president M K Stalin returned to Chennai from London after staying there for some days, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president Kalaignar M Karunanidhi was on Wednesday admitted to Kauvery hospital in Chennai for change of tracheostomy tube.

A statement from the hospital said, “DMK President and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr Kalaignar M Karunanidhi has been admitted at Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, Chennai for change of tracheostomy tube.”

It further said that he will be discharged later on Wednesday after recovering from this procedure.

Meanwhile, reports said Stalin has formed a 12 member team handpicked by him to formulate strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Sources said a secret meeting of these members headed by Stalin was held at Arivalayam on 8 July, before the latter left to London. It is said that the party’s strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will be based on the feedback from these 12 members who are also MLAs.

Speaking to reporters at airport on Wednesday, Stalin said, “CM Palaniswami should take responsibility for the IT raids and resign from his post to ensure fair investigation. The case should be transferred to Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC).”

He further said I-T raids have become a routine in this government. “There is no clear report on what happened during the earlier raids conducted at former Chief Secretary Rama Mohan Rao’s house, Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar’s residence and Sekar Reddy’s office. All these cases also should be transferred to the DVAC as well.”
