Kamal meets Stalin, invites DMK & Rajini for Cauvery meet

Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan on Monday invited political party leaders for an all-party meeting on Cauvery, to be convened by farmers’ organisations in Chennai on May 19.

Kamal Haasan called on DMK working president M K Stalin at the party headquarters Anna Arivalayam in Chennai on Monday night. The meeting lasted for about 10 minutes.

Speaking to reporters, he said, “I have come to invite him to the meeting organised by the farmers. I will act as a tool for the farmers in their endeavour to retrieve the rights over the Cauvery. Even though parties have different views, all should sit together and discuss the issue.”

Kamal, who had recently launched his own political party – Makkal Needhi Maiam, also spoke to actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth over the phone and invited him to the meeting. Bharatiya Janata Party state president Tamilisai Soundararajan and AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran will also be invited for the same.

MNM is organising a meeting of various parties and farmers bodies on May 19 here to discuss the Cauvery issue. The meeting would be presided over by veteran Communist leader R Nallakannu.

Meanwhile, Stalin said he would take a decision after consulting the political parties allied to the DMK. “Nine political parties under the leadership of the DMK have been conducting struggles to resolve this issue. We had decided to have a meeting on May 15, but postponed it to May 17, since the Cauvery water sharing issue will come up for hearing in the Supreme Court on May 15,” he said.
