Actor and President of Makkal Needi Maiam, Kamal Haasan met Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday. In the meeting that lasted for over an hour, the two discussed the political situation in Tamil Nadu.
After meeting the Gandhi scion, the Tamil actor said that it was a courteous meet. Haasan said that he expressed his wish to meet the Congress leader during their last interaction.
The meeting lasted for about 45 minutes, during which the two leaders were understood to have exchanged notes on keeping the BJP away from power.
Haasan described the meeting as a courtesy call and ruled out any discussion of an alliance between his nascent political outfit Makkal Needhi Maiam and the Congress.
While speaking to reporters later, the Tamil cinema veteran said, “It was a formal courtesy meeting. We spoke about Tamil Nadu politics.” Today, he is set to meet Sonia Gandhi.
Kamal Haasan had earlier congratulated Rahul Gandhi after the latter took over the reins of the Congress party as its chief last year.
“Congratulations Mr Rahul G. Your seat does not define you but you can define your position. I have admired your elders. I am sure you would work and deserve my admiration too. All the strength to your shoulders,” he said.
