Kamal explains why is he touring Tamil Nadu, DMK rejects his request

Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan has said “I am touring Tamil Nadu to meet and know the people. I want to serve the poeple only after knowing what they want.”

The actor-politician has been touring Kanyakumari and Thirunelveli and interacting with general public. He was at Panangudi on Thursday where he discussed about what the area lacks in terms of civic development.

“I have come here to meet you and know about your problems. This will be a learning experience for me to know my people,” he said while addressing a crowd during a brief stopover at Thenthamaraikulam in the district.

The veteran actor stressed the need for honesty on politics. During his three-day tour, Kamal is covering many parts of southern Tamil Nadu in the districts of Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar.

During an interaction with fishermen at a marriage hall in Colachel, Kamal announced 5 lakh as donation to build a state-of-art boat that can be used for rescuing fishermen in distress. “MNM is a democratic party. I will have to discuss with others to decide what we can do for this cause as a party,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a setback to Kamal Haasan who has proposed to rally all the political party leaders under a common platform on Cauvery issue, DMK working president M. K. Stalin said that 9 parties, including the DMK, will not participate in the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) meeting on Cauvery slated for May 19.
