Kamal Haasan, who visited the Kilpauk hospital and paid tributes to the bodies of the three who were killed in a crane mishap on the sets of Indian 2, interacted with the media.
“I am donating Rs 1 crore to the family of the deceased. This is not compensation to the lives lost,” he said and added: “This incident indicates that the safety of the people in cine industry is still questionable.
I was talking to my friends today morning and as an industry, we need to take measures to make sure that such incidents do not happen in future.
We take pride in saying that a movie is made on so-and-so crore budget and I personally feel ashamed to say that we couldn’t provide safety to the people who work for the film.”
He added: “On my behalf, I am donating Rs 1 crore to the family of the deceased and this is what I can do now. This is not the compensation for what we have lost. Some of them are very poor people. Three years back, I was in an accident. I know how difficult it is to recover from an accident like this. Of the three, only one could probably afford.”
The film’s heroine Kajal Aggarwal said, “In so much shock, denial, trauma from the monstrous crane accident last night. All it took was a fraction of a second to stay alive and type this tweet,”she said.
She added: “Just that one moment. Gratitude. So much learning and appreciation for the value of time and life. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻” She thanked God for saving her.
Kajal added: “Words cannot describe the heartache I feel at the unexpected, untimely loss of my colleagues from lastnight.Krishna,Chandran and Madhu.Sending love, strength and my deepest condolences to your families.May god give strength in this moment of desolation. #Indian2 @LycaProductions.”
