Kallakurichi death: CB-CID files report in sealed cover
The Madras High Court on Monday directed the CB-CID to expedite the probe into the death of the Kallakurichi Schoolgirl and file a report in this connection in a sealed cover.
Justice N Sathish Kumar passed the direction on hearing the petition filed by P Ramalingam, father of the deceased girl. The petitioner sought direction to take action against people who caused the death of his daughter. Recently, the judge ordered an SIT probe in this case.
When the matter was taken on Monday, the State Public Prosecutor Hasan Mohammed Jinnah submitted that the state had used various government departments to assess the damages that happened due to the violence that erupted on the school campus on July 17. “Vehicles, trees, highway signboards, computers, and other accessories worth about Rs 3.45 crore were damaged in the violence,” the PP submitted.
He further informed that 202 witnesses have been examined by the investigation officers so far, which includes 68 injured police personnel.
The PP representing SIT submitted that 40 people were arrested in the case based on the evidence that includes 954 videos and 150 photographs showing people involved in the violence.
The PP noted that people who had spread wrong information on social media sites were also arrested in the case.
