Kalasagar Awards 2026 Announced
Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval was a legendary percussion maestro who transformed the fierce and powerful chenda into a divine instrument flowing with nectar-like rhythm. A towering genius who left his unique imprint on every sphere of Kathakali — the composite art form of dance, music, and acting — his memory continues to inspire generations of art lovers. In remembrance of this illustrious maestro, Kalasagar has announced the prestigious Kalasagar Awards for the year 2026.
The awardees are:
• K. B. Raj Anand – Art Criticism
• Kalluvazhi Vasu – Vesham
• Kottakkal P. D. Namboodiri – Music
• Kalamandalam Narayanankutty & Vijayamaniyamma – Chenda
• Kodassery Parameswaran Nair – Maddalam
• Kottakkal Ramachandran – Chutti
The awardees were selected by the Award Selection Committee comprising T. K. Achuthan, Kalamandalam Unnikrishnan, and Vellinezhi Anand.
