Kaantha trailer showcases a vintage showdown between Dulquer Salmaan and Samuthirakani

The much-anticipated trailer of Kaantha has set social media abuzz with its stunning recreation of 1950s Madras and the promise of a gripping drama built on ego, ambition, and artistry.

Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the film stars Dulquer Salmaan and Samuthirakani in powerhouse roles that depict a mentor–protégé relationship gone sour in the early years of Tamil cinema.

In the trailer, Dulquer’s character — an ambitious actor driven by fame — clashes with his mentor, played by Samuthirakani, whose creative ideals and moral compass lead to a bitter professional fallout.

The tension is amplified through the film’s nostalgic production design and emotionally charged performances, hinting at a story that blurs the line between admiration and rivalry.

The film also features Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead and Rana Daggubati in a special role.

Jointly produced by Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media, Kaantha stands out for its authentic period detailing, including vintage film studios, classic camera setups, and evocative costumes that capture the cinematic spirit of post-independence Madras.
