Reliance Jio Infocomm consolidated its leadership by revenue market share (RMS) in the July-September quarter, helped by strong growth in key metros and across rural markets, while Vodafone Idea continued to lose ground in most circles.
Jio in Tamilnadu reported a strong 560 basis points (bps) sequential jump in the September quarter to reach an RMS of 30.7%, while Bharti Airtel (including Tata Teleservices) gained 421 bps on-quarter for a 36.5% RMS. Vodafone Idea’s RMS, by contrast, dipped 64 bps sequentially to 26.3% in the September quarter.
Jio’s RMS has moved up from sub 20% in Mar’18 to over 30% in Sep’19, the only operator to register Quarter on Quarter (QoQ) growth. In the June quarter, Jio and Airtel’s RMS stood at 29.8% and 35.9% respectively.
In Tamilnadu, Jio strengthened its market share position with 30.7% revenue market share, second only to Airtel’s 36.5 % RMS and ahead of Vodafone Idea’s 26.3% market share.
In terms of subscriber base too, Jio has added a net 24 million customers in the July-September period, taking its 4G user base to 355.2 million-Jothi.S
