Jayalalithaa hospitalised, condition ‘stable’

Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after complaining of high fever and dehydration.

The 68-year-old AIADMK chief was taken to Apollo Hospitals here late last night and her condition is stated to be “stable” now, the hospital said, adding she is “under observation”.

“The Chief Minister was admitted with fever and dehydration. She is in a stable condition and is under observation,” said Apollo Hospitals chief operating officer Subbiah Viswanathan.

He added: “The Honorable Madam is stable and under observation.”

Jayalalithaa, who recently completed four months as the Tamil Nadu CM in her second term, suddenly developed illness on Thursday, sources said.

On hearing about her admission to the hospital, AIADMK functionaries and cadre started gathering around the hospital with anxiety. But they were told that the Chief Minister is stable.

Meanwhile, police security has been beefed up around the hospital. Ministers, MPs, MLAs and other AIADMK functionaries are near the hospital now.
