Jaya gives bicycles, motorbikes to Chennai cops for better patrolling: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today presented 100 motorbikes, 250 bicycles and 100 e-challan machines to Police personnel.
According to an official release, while the motorbikes and biycles will be used by the Chennai City Police for improved patrolling, the e-challan machines will be used by the Chennai City Traffic Police for spot fining.
Also, she presented Rs. one crore solatium to the family of Head Constable C Munusamy, who was stabbed to death by a gang of chain snatchers in Hosur. She also gave his daughter, who has secured a MBBS seat, a government order to take care of her education expenses.
In the Assembly last week, the CM said though a solatium of Rs.500,000 was ordered to be paid to Munusamy’s family under the existing rules, it was felt that the amount was not sufficient.
The Chief Minister said she had directed the Chief Secretary to make amendments to the existing government order to increase the solatium to the policemen who were killed or injured while performing their duty.
In 2014, she flagged off 403 newly fitted patrol motorcycles, which are being used in the new patrol system that was put in place by the city
