Jaya expands cabinet within hours of taking charge
A few hours after a 29-member Cabinet headed Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa were sworn in, four more new Ministers have been inducted taking the strength of the Cabinet to 33.
An official release said, the Governor on the advice of the Chief Minister had inducted, G. Baskaran (Sivaganga MLA) as Minister for Khadi and Village Industries Board, Bhoodan and Gramadhan; Sevvoor S. Ramachandran (Aarani MLA) as Minister for Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments and Tamil Official Languages & Tamil Culture; Nilofer Kafeel (Vanniyambadi MLA) as the Minister for Labour and Employment; and P Balakrishna Reddy (Hosur MLA) as Minister for Animal Husbandry.
The swearing-in of the four new ministers will take place at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. The Raj Bhavan statement said Governor K Rosaiah has inducted four more ministers on the recommendation of Jayalalithaa.
68-year-old Jayalalithaa, along with 28 others, including her trusted lieutenant O Pannerselvam, took the oath of office and secrecy in the name of God in Tamil that was administered by Governor K Rosaiah.
As soon as she assumed charge as chief minister of Tamil Nadu for the sixth time, J Jayalalithaa drove straight to the secretariat and cleared five files. As reported by Eenadu India early this morning, one among the five orders from the CM was to provide 100 units of free electricity to domestic consumers.
Also, she ordered close down 500 TASMAC shops across the States. Besides, the working hours of liquor outlets have been reduced from the earlier 10 am to 10 pm to 12 noon to 10 pm. This will come into effect from today.
Another order was for increasing gold allocation from 4 to 8 grams for women beneficiaries under the Thallikku Thangam Scheme (Gold for ‘Mangalsutra’). Another order will increase the free electricity being given to weavers from 200 to 750 units.
