Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa today announced a new crop insurance scheme for farmers.
In a statement, she recalled a poll promise made by her party, that an improvised insurance scheme would be implemented for crops.
“On this basis, I have ordered to implement the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme which will come with the financial contribution of the State government,” she said.
Though the State government will have to spend more due to the implementation of the scheme, my government is happy to opt for it, as it will benefit farmers a lot,” she said. It is learnt more than Rs 500 crore needs to be paid as premium.
Meawhile in another statement, she announced a relief of Rs three lakh each to the families of two persons killed in a robbery attempt here on July 4.
Jayalalithaa condoled the death of Nandini and Sagar, who were killed in the robbery attempt and announced a relief of Rs three lakh each to their families.
She also announced Rs one lakh to another woman who had sustained injuries in the incident and directed best medical treatment for her. Also, she has asked two ministers to take care of her.
