Jailer 2 censor row sparks buzz as Rajinikanth’s publicist issues clarification
As Jailer 2 moves closer to its October release, speculation surrounding the Superstar Rajinikanth-starrer has intensified, with reports now emerging about its proposed censor certification.
A report claimed that Rajinikanth had asked the makers to pursue a U/A certificate because the sequel’s violent content could potentially result in an A rating. However, the actor’s publicist Riaz K Ahmed has rejected the claim.
Responding to the report on X, Ahmed said the information was untrue and added that updates concerning Jailer 2 would be released by the production house according to its schedule.
The filmmakers have not yet officially announced the film’s censor certificate. Jailer 2 is scheduled to reach theatres worldwide on October 15. Sun Pictures has listed the same date on its official page, while production on the film was completed earlier this year.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel brings Rajinikanth back as Muthuvel Pandian. The promotional material has already revived interest in the characters and world of the first film.
Anirudh returns as composer, while the cast includes prominent names such as Mohanlal and Vijay Sethupathi.
The sequel also features Ramya Krishnan and Mirnaa, who return as members of Muthuvel Pandian’s family. Jatin Sarna and Suraj Venjaramoodu are among the additional actors joining the cast.
The film has remained under close fan scrutiny since production wrapped in April. Behind-the-scenes photographs featuring Vasanth Ravi also triggered speculation about his role, given what happened to his character in the original.
Jailer, released in 2023, became one of the year’s biggest Tamil commercial successes, setting high expectations for the sequel.
