Jailer 2 adds Vidya Balan as Kantha in a striking new character reveal
The makers of Jailer 2 have begun unveiling more details about the much-awaited Superstar Rajinikanth-starrer, with Bollywood actor Vidya Balan becoming the latest addition to the film’s promotional campaign.
Sun Pictures announced on Sunday, September 20, that Vidya Balan will appear in the sequel as a character named Kantha. A short character video gives viewers their first glimpse of her role.
In the clip, Vidya appears in a blue saree and black blouse while holding a cigarette as she walks down a staircase and enters a room. The brief introduction suggests that Kantha will have a strong presence, although the film’s makers have not yet disclosed her place in the story.
Reports have suggested that Vidya may portray the eldest daughter of Mithun Chakraborty’s character, who is reportedly positioned as the principal antagonist. However, the makers have not officially revealed the complete details of their characters.
The announcement follows earlier introductions of SJ Suryah as Bodhi and Suraj Venjaramoodu as Dileep, as the production team gradually expands the world established in the first Jailer.
Directed and written by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 brings Rajinikanth back as Muthuvel Pandian. The original film, released in 2023, became a major Tamil box-office success.
The sequel will also feature returning actors Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik, alongside newcomers including SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna.
There has also been speculation about appearances by actors including Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Vijay Sethupathi and Hrithik Roshan. Those reported cameos have not all been officially confirmed by the production team.
Jailer 2 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 15, 2026, with the latest character reveal adding another layer of anticipation around the sequel.
