It was Health Minister C Vijayabaskar who was initially daily press meets when the State started its aggressive measurs against coronavirus. But Health Secretary Beela Rajesh became the government’s spokesperson after that.
The Minister’s absence triggered rumours and speculations on the social media. Some reports said orders from the higher ups wanted him to maintain low profile. They also said he was under ‘self quarantine’ as he developed illness due to his non-stop rounds and monitoring.
However, Vijayabaskar himself cleared the air on this on Wednesday evening. Speaking to the media, he said he could not attend the press meets since he was busy with video conferencing and other monitoring activities, due to which Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami directed Beela to handle the media.
