With Vikram’s baddie role Love, a transgender, in his upcoming movie Iru Mugan generating waves, the film’s director Anand Shankar has said it will not insult transgenders.
“A few who watched the trailer had deciphered things wrongly. It is a thriller with sci-fi elements. All I can say is that we have made a honest attempt and Iru Mugan never mocks at anyone,” says Anand Shankar.
He adds: “Vikram plays Akilan, a RAW agent and Love, an eccentric scientist. I wanted to create a villain like the Joker
in the Batman series. Love is a contrast to Akilan. He has lazy elegance and is cat-like. Audience will like Love.”
He said in an interview: ‘I made Arima Nambi only to prove that actors and producers should recognize that I’m capable of making a film.”
Anand Shankar added: “But that doesn’t mean I should only make films like Arima Nambi, Iru Mugan is a big budget film and I feel that the two years of wait is worth considering the output we have now”.
For the first time in his career, Vikram plays a dual role in Iru Mugan- RAW officer and a transgender villain. Overall, the mystery thriller looks extremely promising.
The film stars Vikram, Nayantara and Nithya Menen in the lead roles. Having gone through several changes in pre-production of cast and producers, the film began shooting in December 2015. Music is by Harris Jayaraj.
