“Inga Naan Thaan Kingu” Movie Review

Santhanam Shines with Laughter

Santhanam is back, delivering hearty laughs in “Inga Naan Thaan Kingu.” The film centers around Vetri, a bachelor entangled in a series of comical misadventures after marrying into a debt-laden zamindar family. A chaotic turn of events involving a terrorist’s accidental death in Vetri’s apartment sets the stage for a rollicking heist as Vetri and his quirky in-laws try to claim a reward by retrieving the body.

Vetri (Santhanam) is a character many can relate to, burdened by financial woes and the pressure to find a wife. His job at a matrimonial company isn’t helping matters, and a disastrous marriage scheme lands him with an eccentric royal family. Tying the knot with Thenmozhi (Priyalaya), Vetri finds himself dealing with her amusingly incompetent father (Thambi Ramaiah) and brother (Bala Saravanan), all while struggling to stay afloat financially. A mishap at a company party results in Vetri’s termination, adding to his woes.

The plot takes a hilarious twist when a terrorist (a look-alike of Vivek Prasanna) dies in Vetri’s apartment. Vetri and his clueless in-laws dispose of the body of a go-between. Upon learning about a ₹50 lakh reward for the terrorist, they see a chance to turn their luck around, launching into a tumultuous and comical heist.

Ezhichur Aravindan’s original scripting shines, with scenes crafted for maximum comedic effect. The humor, though sometimes illogical, keeps the audience entertained. Memorable moments include Vetri’s wedding scene where he’s humorously offered a cashew and an almond to uphold zamindar standards. The film starts strong with sidesplitting scenes, although it loses some steam with drastic plot turns in the second half. However, the brother-in-law’s antics pretending to be a corpse provide consistent laughs, reminiscent of Kamal Haasan’s “Panchathanthiram.”

The ensemble cast, including Santhanam, Bala Saravanan, and Thambi Ramaiah, enhances the film’s charm. Santhanam generously shares the comedic spotlight, allowing fellow comedians to shine. Munishkanth’s performance as Body Balaraman is a highlight, and even smaller roles by Seshu and Maran stand out. Priyalaya impresses with her looks and dance, while Vivek Prasanna amuses in his dual role.

Santhanam’s lively performance and impeccable comic timing keep the film engaging. Imman’s songs and Om Narayan’s cinematography complement the film well. In a time when a light-hearted escape is much needed, “Inga Naan Thaan Kingu” offers a delightful respite, perfect for a good laugh in  theater.
