India’s coronavirus case count rose to 98.84 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 93.88 lakh pushing the national recovery rate to 94.98 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
More than 27,000 infections were reported in a day on Monday, while the death count rose to 1,43,335 with 336 new fatalities, the data showed.
This was the lowest count of daily cases recorded since July 6 as the pandemic continued to gradually recede across most of India.
India currently has a fatality rate of 1.45 per cent due to coronavirus. The government has said more than 70 per cent of the people recover from COVID-19 with mild or very mild symptoms. Such cases may not even require admission to COVID-19 blocks or dedicated hospitals, the Health Ministry said.
Madhya Pradesh on Monday reported 1,058 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the infection count to 2,24,636, health officials said. Three people died in Indore, two in Bhopal and one each in Khargone, Mandsaur and Mandla to take the toll to 3,412.
Meawnhile, the death toll due to Covid-19 in Punjab rose to 5,098 on Monday with 21 more fatalities, while 464 fresh cases took the infection count to 1,60,659. Five deaths were reported from Hoshiarpur, three each from Patiala and Mohali, two each from Faridkot, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Sangrur and one each from Muktsar and Gurdaspur, according to a medical bulletin.
