India’s Covid count nears 50 lakh

The Covid-19 death toll in India reached 80,776 today, with total number of cases going over 49 lakh.

The country has also reported 1,054 deaths in the last 24 hours. As of now, India’s total caseload stands at 49,30,237 including 9,90,061 active cases.

The total number of recoveries stand at 38,59,400. Meanwhile, 80,776 people in India have died after getting infected by the deadly virus.

The Indian Council of Medical Research has said that 5,83,12,273 samples have been tested in India for Covid-19 up to September 14. India has significantly ramped up testing over the past few months and many state governments have said this is one of the reasons behind the high number of cases being reported daily.

All private hospitals having bed strength of 30 or above, located in Bhubaneswar,Cuttack,Sambalpur, Berhampur and Rourkela Municipal Corporation limits shall mandatorily designate minimum 50% of their general beds and 80% of ICUs for treatment of Covid-19 patients. the Odisha government has said.

Latest data from the Johns Hopkins University show that there are nearly 3 crore coronavirus cases have been recorded globally and the number of deaths have crossed nine lakh. US still accounts for the highest number of cases and deaths in the world while India continues to register the highest number of daily cases. As of now, India has over 48 lakh cases and nearly 80,000 deaths.
