India’s Covid-19 death toll surged to 2,649 with the number of cases nearing the 82,000-mark. 3,967 new cases were recorded, and 100 deaths.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India has been rising constantly. The country now is just a whisker from overtaking China — from where the virus originated. India’s tally of cases now stands at 81,997 and 2,649 people have died of infections so far, according to Worldometer data.

Of the total, there are 51,401 active cases while 27,919 cases have been discharged or cured. The death toll also rose from 2,549 to 2,649 while one person has migrated. Globally, over 4.4 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus, while the number of deaths have crossed 3 lakh.
