India today added 39,097 fresh COVID-19 cases over a 24-hour period, which is 10.6 per cent higher than yesterday. The country reported 546 deaths, taking the total death count to 4.20 lakh.
The daily test positivity rate – number of positive cases identified per 100 – is at 2.40 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 33rd straight day.
Kerala with 17,518 fresh cases leads the states with most number of infections over a 24-hour period. It reported 132 deaths. It is followed by Maharashtra (6,753), Odisha (1,917) Tamilnadu (1,830), Andhra Pradesh (1,747).
Maharashtra, which continues to be the worst-hit state, added 6,753 fresh cases and 167 deaths in a day.
