India reports 15968 new cases, count crosses 4.5 lakh

India today recorded 15,968 new coronavirus cases, taking the overall count to 4,56,183, according to the Union health ministry’s update. The toll rose to 14,476 with 465 new deaths.

The World Health Organization said that the reporting of record number of new coronavirus cases in several countries cannot be attributed to more testing. Countries like India and the United States have linked the rise in infections to increased testing.

The ministry said the total number of recoveries stood at 2,48,189 that makes a recovery rate of 56.37 percent. Currently, there are 1,78,014 active cases and all are under medical supervision, it said.

The number of cases touched 91 lakh globally with 4.74 fatalities. The US remains the worst-hit country followed by Brazil, Russia and India at the fourth, as per Johns Hopkins University data.

Beijing reported fewer additional local coronavirus infections, in a further sign that a recent outbreak is coming under control. The government last week declared that the peak has passed for the recent outbreak in the capital, the country’s worst since Wuhan, the city where the pathogen first appeared.

Singapore`s Ministry of Health reported 119 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 42,432. Of the new cases, 97 percent are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.

More than 46 lakh people across the world have recovered. The national helpline number for the coronavirus is 011-23978046, and a toll-free number 1075.
