India protests to Ukraine over death of Indian seafarer
India has formally protested to Ukraine after an Indian sailor was killed in an attack on a merchant vessel in the Black Sea.
The Ministry of External Affairs summoned Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksandr Polishchuk and conveyed India’s concern over the incident involving the commercial ship MV OMORFI.
According to the ministry, India strongly condemned attacks on commercial shipping, stating that such incidents threaten the safety of civilian crews, maritime navigation and international trade. The ambassador was asked to communicate New Delhi’s concerns to the Ukrainian authorities and emphasise the need to avoid attacks that endanger innocent seafarers.
The diplomatic protest comes amid increasing risks to commercial vessels operating in the Black Sea because of the continuing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
