India nears 1 crore mark in Covid-19 tests,  cases too on rise

India has neared one crore-mark on COVID-19 Tests. India has already breached the 6-lakh mark on the total number of coronavirus cases, inching closer each day to surpass Russia on the third position of global COVID-19 chart.

With highest single-day spike of 21,418 COVID-19 cased and 379 deaths, India’s cumulative tally of the virus stood at 6,26,599.

India reports 379 deaths and highest single-day spike of 20,903 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Positive cases stand at 6,25,544 including 2,27,439 active cases, 3,79,892 cured/discharged/migrated & 18213 deaths, the Health Ministry stated.

The Health Ministry also warned that the total number of people being tested for COVID-19 in the country would soon touch one crore, the Health Ministry said.

The first made-in-India coronavirus vaccine may be launched by August 15, with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) fast-tracking efforts to develop “Covaxin” in partnership with Bharat Biotech International Limited.

A dozen institutes have been selected for clinical trials of the indigenous COVID-19 vaccine (BBV152 COVID vaccine), the government’s top medical research body has said.

Zydus has received approval from Indian regulators to begin human studies for its Covid-19 vaccine contender, the drugmaker said on Friday, as the novel coronavirus infections continue to surge in the world’s fourth worst-hit nation.

The potential vaccine showed a “strong immune response” in animal studies, and the antibodies produced were able to completely neutralize the wild type virus, Zydus, part of Cadila Healthcare Ltd, said in a statement to Indian stock exchanges.
