India, Malaysia sign 11 MoUs during PM Modi’s visit

India and Malaysia has signed 11 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and exchanged several bilateral documents across a broad range of sectors during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day official visit to Kuala Lumpur.

The agreements, signed in the presence of PM Modi and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim following delegation-level talks, span trade and investment, semiconductors, digital economy, healthcare, security cooperation and peacekeeping, officials said.

Describing the engagements as crucial for advancing ties, Ibrahim said the two countries consider the talks and the MoU exchanges “very vital, very strategic and critical to advance and enhance relations between India and Malaysia,” noting long-standing historical links and expanding economic cooperation.

The visit marks Modi’s first to Malaysia since both countries elevated relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024. He received a ceremonial welcome in Kuala Lumpur before proceeding with high-level meetings.

In the security domain, both sides reaffirmed commitments to strengthen collaboration on counterterrorism, intelligence-sharing and maritime security amid evolving regional challenges. The External Affairs Ministry officials noted that enhanced cooperation in these areas formed a key pillar of discussions during the visit.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s firm stance on terrorism. “India and Malaysia are committed to development, peace and stability in the entire Indo-Pacific region along with ASEAN. India looks forward to further deepening engagement with ASEAN. On the issue of terror, our message is clear – No double standards. No compromise,” he wrote on X.
